Young lawyer Harding Kent arrives at his sweetheart Louise's home to discover that her sister has attempted suicide, and in the course of their search of her room for clues, they uncover a scrap of yellow paper whose appearance triggers a stroke in her father. With both the involved parties unable to explain, Kent vows to solve the mystery, and recruiting his postal inspector friend Davis, he sets out on the trail, but is chagrined to discover that Davis is always several steps ahead.
