The story of the Princess Bride is entertaining, and well written. The characters, from Price Humperdinck to Fezzik, were all engaging, and that storyline kept my family and I coming back for more. However, I did find that some of the additional text (or, "other" storyline) from the 'readers voice', wasn't as entertaining, with less engaging characters and experiences, and even became distracting in parts of the book. Sadly, I felt like the storyline of the reader ended up hurting the book - and, to my kids that I was reading too, even made the book harder to follow. In the end, I did start skipping most of the 'reader voice' italicized text and just focused on the more entertaining storyline (w/buttercup and Westley). Overall, I think the movie is iconic - and everyone should see it. The book, now that I've finally read it, is a little bit less iconic, but still worth a read.

Goldman is the fibber of the century. I loved the movie growing up, and finally got around to reading the book. I was fascinated with all the "extras" I was learning about the book being abridged and about the author's life just to find out it's all a magnificent piece of fiction!

I first read the book as a teenager for an independent reading class. I grew up on the movie, it being a favorite with my family. Having read other books that got turned into movies, I expected it to be quite different. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised that the movie was incredibly faithful to the book, even down to small details. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a swashbuckling adventure story that the whole family can enjoy.
