Om den här e-boken

A wealthy family is haunted by a deadly curse in this classic thriller from the Golden Age of Detective Fiction.

David Lee expects a happy reunion and a fun, relaxing getaway when his college roommate, Dick Thistlestane, invites him to his family's estate in southern New Jersey. Instead, Lee finds a house gripped by tension and filled with strange characters.

Lee has only heard rumors of the Thistlestane family curse. Several of Dick's relatives have met violent deaths. Dick fears the same fate for him and his sister, Jane. After a shrill cry in the night sets off a commotion in the house, Dick is certain someone is out to get him. Before Lee's visit ends, Dick makes him promise to watch out for Jane.

News reaches Lee that Dick was killed by his German Shepherd, but Lee doesn't believe that at all. Returning to Thistlestane, Lee is determined to protect Jane and discover the logical truth behind his friend's death. Was the killer an animal? A man? Or something else?

Om författaren

Charles Lee Swem was a multifaceted figure, best known for his role in President Woodrow Wilson's administration and for his contributions to early-twentieth-century mystery fiction. For many years Charles was the stenographic secretary to Woodrow Wilson, and took his theme from the War President's well-known passion for mystery novels. "As is well known," wrote the author, "Mr. Wilson was a confirmed lover of mystery stories—I might almost say an addict to them. It was his single reading education; he read no other fiction . . . When I essayed to write, I naturally wrote a mystery story . . ."
