About this ebook

Considered W. Somerset Maugham's greatest masterpiece, Of Human Bondage follows a club-footed orphan's coming of age, now freshly repackaged for the Union Square & Co. Signature Classics Line.

Originally published in 1915, this is a semi-autobiographical novel that follows the journey of a tormented orphan boy with a club foot named Philip Carey. As Philip matures, he becomes more adventurous, traveling to Paris and London for his studies. In his search for meaning and fulfillment, he falls disastrously in love, an infatuation that will shape the course of his life. Theodore Dreiser is known to have praised Of Human Bondage as "a work of genius...One feels as though one were sitting before a splendid Shiraz of priceless texture and intricate weave, admiring, felling, responding sensually to its colors and tones."
