About this ebook

We do not know how to respect our own language. Government efforts are blunt, clumsy, and hollow. Hindi or Rajbhasha officers are often limited to holding on to their jobs and flattering seniors. These short stories expose that truth.

In the name of Hindi, hundreds of shops have opened, selling it by the kilo. Litfests have become “super malls,” trading Hindi by the meter while showcasing English-speaking desi and foreign writers and flashy celebrities. The satire of Rajbhasha Rocks reaches here too.

This book carries the voices of soldiers fighting a fierce battle for Hindi. Many are frustrated by decades of hollow debates around the language. Hindi has been misused as a tool for regionalism, fanaticism, casteism, linguistic chauvinism, and polarization.

Through its central characters—the GM (Rajbhasha) and his outspoken critic Aghor Baba—the book satirizes the tattered state of Hindi. Take what you can from their words; if not, simply move on.
