About this ebook

Death is bored. Immortality will do that to you.

** A hilarious new series from the author of The Cassie Black Trilogy! And an international Best of the Month selection! **

After an eternity of escorting souls to the afterlife, Death — who really prefers you call him Mortimer — is bored. There's been departmental divisions, technical developments, and fitness crazes that mean people just aren't dying like they used to.

What's worse… He's running low on romance novels to keep himself occupied.

His solution: a working holiday to Top World, where he expects room service, infinity-high thread counts, and an easy solution to get business booming again.

What he doesn't expect is Mrs Morris, a seventy-three-year-old detective with a tightly packed schedule and no time for an immortal assistant.

But when Mrs Morris is hired to look into a local murder, Mortimer sees the perfect opportunity to nudge up his mortality rates and refuses to go away.

The only trouble? Mortimer soon discovers the victim reeks of demons, turning his perfect opportunity into a heap of trouble that could end his career. Oh, and the human race.

Death Takes a Holiday is a humorous fantasy adventure about the most inconvenient partnership in the history of the afterlife, where a pair of unlikely allies are thrown together by broken bones, murder mysteries, pesky demons, and the deadliest cup of coffee in Portland.

Perfect for fans of:

* Humorous Fantasy & Paranormal Mystery with a dark, witty, and occasionally absurd tone that makes you laugh out loud

* Unlikely detective duos where a romance novel-obsessed Grim Reaper and a senior female sleuth solve a murder mystery and form a very reluctant bond

* A Portland-based urban fantasy setting featuring a death-themed coffee shop, fast-talking demons, and long-dead crooners

* Satirical, fast-paced whodunnit storytelling that makes you wonder if Terry Pratchett joined the Thursday Murder Club

About The Mortimer & Mrs. Morris Trilogy:

Set against the quirky backdrop of Portland, this delightfully comic fantasy mystery series features a sometimes dimwitted Grim Reaper, a brilliant senior detective running from her own demons (not literally), and plenty of supernatural trouble. Death Takes a Holiday is the first book in the trilogy and the perfect starting point for your next favorite binge-read.

Story Note:

This book contains darkly wry humor, paranormal elements, mild supernatural peril, and some very deadly cups of coffee.

What readers are saying:

"A fantastic story that is so funny I almost peed my pants!"

"The dynamic between Mortimer and Mrs. Morris is brilliant. I couldn't wait for more!"

"An unforgettable paranormal mystery filled with dry wit and spectacular characters."

This is a great beginning to the series! The odd-couple relationship between romance-reading Mortimer (Death) and widowed Mrs Morris develops as they investigate an unscheduled death, eventually reaching a point of trust. The twist at the end sets up the next book nicely (while not making this book feel unfinished)!
