About this ebook

Study Groups That Work is a detailed, practical guide to The Complete Guide to Creating Effective Study Groups for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Science of Learning Together, What's Your Study Situation?, The Six Pillars Framework, Building Your Dream Team, The Launch Meeting, The Four Session Archetypes, Active Learning Techniques in Action, The Socratic Question Toolkit, Role Rotation and Shared Leadership, Virtual Groups That Deliver, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Tiffany Broussard is a learning design specialist and educator with over fifteen years of experience developing evidence based academic support programs in higher education. Her work focuses on translating cognitive science research into practical, accessible strategies that help students learn more effectively, regardless of their background or academic discipline.

Broussard began her career as a teaching assistant during graduate school, where she noticed a consistent pattern: students who studied collaboratively in structured groups consistently outperformed those who studied alone, even when the solo studiers had higher incoming grades. This observation led her to a decade of research and practice in cooperative learning, peer instruction, and study group design. She has designed and led study group training programs at three major universities, working with thousands of undergraduate and graduate students across STEM, humanities, and professional programs.

She holds a master's degree in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Learning Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin, where her thesis examined the role of structured interdependence in small-group academic outcomes. She has presented her findings at conferences including the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL).

Currently, Broussard serves as Director of Academic Success Initiatives at a large public research university, where she oversees peer learning programs, tutor training, and first year transition support. She lives in Austin, Texas, with her family and maintains an active presence on her blog, where she writes about learning strategies, study habits, and the science of academic success.
