Enjoyed this a lot until the orbital mechanics error related to Earth II wrecked it for me. Uranus does indeed have each pole point directly towards the sun for a short part of its year but the vast majority of the time neither pole does this and the equator of the planet has a day night cycle like the rest of the planets. Earth II would have extreme seasons but for much of its year the equatorial regions would likely be very Earth-like at least in terms of day and night. It would even experience equinoxes where day and night were both 15 hours long twice a year. I love science fiction and can ignore questionable science for a good story but this mistake is huge. It makes the decision to stay, move on or return to Earth moot. It just ruined it for me. Loved Flood and loved the trip to Earth II but stopped reading at that point. Some bad science is just too egregious. Three stars for a good half a book.

Fleeing from a flooded earth ( due to global warming? ), a hodgepodge crew composed of space cadets and hitchhikers travel on a jury-rigged ship to distant new earths.

Well done fiction of near apocalyptic event on Earth (which is not so far fetched with the rising sea levels we're seeing now). Good story, realistic evolutionary changes while the same old human responses to adversity (positive and negative) remain. The afterward has interesting references re: space travel.
