New Area Studies: Transottoman Perspectives

Stephan Conermann, PhD, is the Speaker of the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies, and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bonn. His research interests include slaveries, narrative strategies in historiographic texts, transition periods, reconciliation processes, global history, and rule and power. His work is focused on the Mamluk and Delhi Sultanates, the Mughal and Ottoman Empires, and the Crossroads Area “Transottomanica.”

PD Dr. Zaur Gasimov ist Historiker und Politikwissenschaftler. Seit 2024 ko-leitet er die Fakultät für Wirtschafts- und Verwaltungswissenschaften als DAAD-Fachkoordinator an der Türkisch-Deutschen Universität in Istanbul.

Veruschka Wagner, PhD, is a Research Associate at the Department for Islamic Studies and Middle-Eastern Languages at the University of Bonn and Affiliated Researcher of the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS). Her research focuses primarily on Ottoman slavery and dependencies, as well as late Ottoman and early Republican satire and caricatures.

Taisiya Leber ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Byzantinistik der Universität Mainz. Sie ist Historikerin mit dem Forschungsschwerpunkt der mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen Geschichte Südost- und Osteuropas.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Rohdewald lehrt seit 2013 Südosteuropäische Geschichte an der Universität Gießen.
