About this ebook

A DAUGHTER OF SANORA. A DISEASE WITHOUT CURE. AN ANCIENT POWER AWAKENING.

Some truths are buried. Some refuse to stay that way.

Tayo is raised on the Caribbean island of Sanora by her grandmother Ama-Si — a woman of ancestor worship and herbal wisdom, who lived on the food she grew. When Ama-Si is arrested for practising obeah and vanishes without a trace, Tayo's grief and visions of her grandmother are dismissed as madness. She is shipped off to England to be "cured."

Five years later, she returns to a dying homeland.

A mysterious illness is sweeping through Sanora, killing the young and the pregnant. No one can explain why. The disease takes her mother. And her childhood visions return, guiding her back to the sacred grounds where she is transformed — awakened to a healing power the modern world tried to erase.

Then her grandmother's voice returns.

Her belief that the disease is linked to the imported, processed food that has quietly replaced the land's traditional harvest — puts her on a collision course with the corporations and corrupt officials who profit from it.

Her mystical connection with the ancestral world comes at a high price, but Sanora and the region must survive. Her influence and powers to heal grow and a community of the sick and desperate rally around her.

Hunted by the government. Pursued across the sea. Tayo must decide who she must destroy to save her people — and the new life growing inside her.

A story of ancestry, resistance, and rebirth, for readers who love mythic, culturally rich speculative fiction.

"An elegant tale of the earth that feeds us, the courage of one voice, and the ancestors who still protect."

P.D. Lennon, author of ‘THE CASE OF THE MAD DOCTOR’

“Steffanie Edward weaves a lyrical, essential tale of survival, heritage, ancient wisdom and the enduring power of the land.”
