"Jackson's great gift is not to create a world of fantasy and terror, but rather to discover the existence of the grotesque in the ordinary world. The grotesque is so powerful here because it takes off from everyday life and constantly returns there, until we do not know ourselves quite where we are; until we feel that everyday has a little Halloween in it. The Magic of Shirley Jackson was real and powerful, and its spell abides." — The New York Times Book Review

This book is timeless and contains some of Jackson's best work, but unfortunately this edition is riddled with formatting errors. All of the emphasis from the print edition has been lost, and the book is full of obvious typographical mistakes. The overall reading experience is badly diminished, and until the publisher issues a corrected version, I can't recommend this one.
