Starting the book with basic vendor registration, Scott quickly transitions to why some companies succeed in government contracting while others do not, marketing to public agencies, types of government customers, contracting vehicles, how offers are evaluated, and how to beat the competition. Scott's method for crafting a simple winning proposal is described in detail, with applicability for any level of government, and designed for maximum collaboration within your company.
Over his 15-year government contracting career, Scott has led sales and proposal writing efforts to secure over $125 million of government contracts, specializing in new and developing government contracting business units.
Scott Johnson grew up in northern Minnesota and studied political science at Bemidji State University before enlisting in the Air Force for six years. After his service commitment, Scott worked as an IT manager for a sovereign wealth fund in the San Francisco Bay Area. Scott went on to form and operate several small technology and real estate businesses in California while making time to complete a bachelor of science degree. Eventually, he found himself in federal, state, and military contracting. Over the subsequent 15 years, Scott led several companies' sales efforts for professional services, software development, and data service contracts.
Scott returned to school a third time during the pandemic. He was accepted into a leading business school program, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Dakota. Scott now advises small and medium-sized businesses on government business development, proposal development, channel marketing, and sales capture strategies. Scott and his wife live in northern California and travel extensively with their RV throughout the year. They have one son, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson and are in their third decade of living with McNab Shepherds.
