Fast-paced and action-packed, this book is a page turner. However, there is also this: Thwip-! Clang!, CRAAA-CK! BOOOOM!, KAAA-BOOOM-!!, Pffft-Pffft!, ROOOAR-!, WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO!, CLANG! SQUELCH. The completely unnecessary noise descriptions on just about every page drove me to distraction. They are worthy of an eight-year-old, not a serious writer. I also didn't need to be reminded that the main character has storm-gray eyes every time he looked at someone or something, and that his hands are calloused wasn't important enough for me to read about it every time he touched Elena. So, there is a fine line between a gripping read and making it pathetic.
