About this ebook

Climate Change: Science, Impact, and Responses in the Indian Context is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary textbook that explores one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century. The book provides a balanced understanding of the scientific basis of climate change, its environmental, social, and economic consequences, and the strategies being adopted at global, national, and local levels to address its impacts.

Written from a geographical perspective, the book bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and contemporary climate realities by integrating scientific explanations, policy discussions, and real-world examples. Special emphasis is placed on the Indian context, highlighting climate-related challenges affecting agriculture, water resources, biodiversity, urban areas, coastal regions, and vulnerable communities. The book also examines emerging themes such as climate justice, carbon neutrality, renewable energy transitions, nature-based solutions, climate-resilient development, and sustainable development goals.

To enhance learning and engagement, the book incorporates coloured maps, diagrams, tables, case studies, illustrations, and chapter-end exercises that encourage critical thinking and application of concepts. The content has been carefully designed to meet the academic requirements of undergraduate and postgraduate students of Geography, Environmental Studies, Disaster Management, Sustainability Studies, and allied disciplines.

In addition to serving as a university textbook, the book is a valuable resource for educators, researchers, policymakers, and aspirants preparing for competitive examinations. By combining scientific knowledge, geographical insights, contemporary case studies, and practical solutions, this book aims to foster a deeper understanding of climate change and inspire informed action towards a more resilient and sustainable future.
