Duty and Desire on the Pennine Moors

A royal assassination plot. A race against time. A love that defies convention.

Yorkshire, 1907

Emma and Tor Hardy are settled in their Cornish home, but trouble is brewing. When Lady Jane Ravenscroft asks Tor to find her missing son, Max, he agrees, unaware of the deadly conspiracy he is about to uncover.

Fleeing to Yorkshire, Max seeks help from Tor’s son, Torrie, who now works in the Penrith mines. His terrifying tale of royal assassination and a plot to overthrow the government plunges Tor into a race against time. Can he prevent disaster, or has he finally met his match?

Meanwhile, Verity Davies, granddaughter of Miller Mullins, refuses to be tamed, despite her grandfather’s determination to see her married. But when a mysterious stranger arrives in the village, Verity’s head is turned, though nothing is ever that simple.

As Tor fights to save a king, can he defeat his enemies, save those he loves, and will Verity find freedom in love?
