Denney gets lost in his connections to explain Aiken. He misses the point that Aiken loss of identity from post traumatic stress is the reason for his fixation on the subject matter. His inability to construct a narrative poem is common of someone who has an interrupted life. He misses this aspect of his writing as well. All of this 50 page essay works hard to defend Aiken's style, but really doesn't even scratch the surface of what the poet was desperate to convey to his readers. There is only speculation and misguided conjecture about a man who had survived more than this admirer of his could comprehend.
