About this ebook

A final request from a fallen soldier brings Caleb Mercer back to the mountain town—and the woman—he left behind years ago.

After leaving the Army, Caleb receives a letter from his best friend Ethan, written before Ethan’s death. His final request is simple: go home, help his sister Sophie, protect the family he can no longer protect, and make sure she does not face everything alone.

Sophie Cole has no intention of being rescued. She is struggling to keep Cole Ridge Lodge alive while raising Mason and carrying grief that has already taken too much from her. Caleb’s arrival only reopens wounds she thought she had buried.

But Ethan left more than a letter behind.

As hidden documents, unanswered questions, family debts, and the truth about Ethan’s final mission begin to surface, Caleb and Sophie are forced to confront the past that separated them. Slowly, grief gives way to trust—and trust becomes a love neither of them expected to survive.

A deeply emotional contemporary romance about loss, loyalty, family, forgiveness, second chances, and finding the courage to come home.

The recorded messages from Ethan nearly finished me. One minute I was smiling at something he said and the next minute I had tears in my eyes. That part of the story was handled beautifully.

I thought this would be a straightforward romance and it definitely wasn’t. There’s quite a bit going on with the lodge, Ethan’s secrets and the family problems. It made the book more interesting than I expected.

Sophie was my kind of heroine. Difficult sometimes, yes, but strong without being written as if she never needed anyone. Watching her slowly accept help without losing herself was satisfying.
