Meant to Be My Cowboy

R.C. Ryan's Wranglers of Wyoming series is one that I've enjoyed since it began. Meant to Be My Cowboy is the third book in the series and while it's nice to have read the others, you can read this one as a standalone. Jonah Merrick is both a rancher and a mystery writer. He loves that he can live on his family's ranch and write his books while staying out of the limelight. The last thing he wants to do is give interviews. The celebrity is not at all what he's about. He's all about his family and his quiet life. Annie Dempsey has just fled California to get herself away from a bad situation. Even she doesn't realize the depths of what she's running from when she comes to Devil's Door to find solace with her aunt and uncle. When Annie goes hiking and ends up on the Merrick family property out by Jonah's cabin the two strike up a friendship and begin spending time together. When Jonah realizes that Annie is in trouble, his instincts kick in and all he wants to do is help her. He brings her to the family ranch to help keep her safe and encourages her to go to the authorities. The two continue to grow closer as they spend more and more time together and it becomes clear to Jonah that he's not ready to let her go and he really wants her to stay permanently. Will Annie be on board with that? Especially given some of the extenuating circumstances? This story moved at a very good pace for me and it had me hooked from the very beginning. There was a good amount of romance, but also plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus, I'm a fan of the large Merrick brood, so getting to see all of them again was great as well.

I love this series and Meant to Be My Cowboy didn’t disappoint. This is an enemies to lovers romance that will have you cheering for Annie and Jonah. The Dempsey’s and the Merrick’s used to be friends, but after Bo’s wife died in a fire and Bo thinks Des had something to do with it, enemies it is. Annie comes to Devil’s Door after her job in finance in California is in jeopardy of falling apart. Of course, her troubles follows her and the Merrick family steps up to offer their help and hospitality. If you love a fantastic family series, I highly recommend this entire series.
