Robert Alonzo is a nutrition educator, meal planning specialist, and father of three who has spent the past fourteen years helping families transform the way they eat without transforming their entire lives around cooking. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, and a certificate in Culinary Nutrition from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Robert began his career as a community nutrition educator in San Francisco, where he worked with low-income families to develop practical cooking skills and budget-friendly meal strategies. That experience taught him something that became the foundation of his entire philosophy: most families already know what healthy eating looks like on paper. What they lack is not knowledge—it's a system that fits their particular chaos. His first book, *The Practical Pantry: Stocking Your Kitchen for Real Life*, grew out of a series of popular workshops he developed for working parents in the Bay Area.
Over the course of his career, Robert has worked with over eight hundred families through private coaching, group workshops, and corporate wellness programs. He has contributed to *EatingWell*, *Real Simple*, and *The Kitchn*, and has been featured as a meal planning expert on local NPR affiliates and the *Food Psych* podcast. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and three children, where he continues to test his recipes on the most demanding audience he knows: his own family.
Robert believes that cooking for a family is not about perfection or artistry—it is about connection, nourishment, and the quiet dignity of feeding people you love day after day. When he is not in the kitchen or at his desk, you will find him at the farmers' market, on the soccer sidelines, or reading cookbooks in bed long after everyone else has gone to sleep.
