About this ebook

In the jagged hills north of Mexico City, Avenida Inetes does not simply cross the landscape — it cuts it.

On one side rise the fortified homes, trimmed gardens, guarded gates, cafés, clinics, private schools, and carefully curated silence of suburban privilege. On the other side, improvised houses cling to unstable slopes, power lines hang like black veins, children play near danger, and survival becomes a daily choreography without rhythm.

Between these two worlds stands Avenida Inetes: road, border, artery, witness, and verdict.

Avenida Inetes: Surviving the Margins of Suburban Mexico is a literary exploration of a fictional suburban geography inspired by the Valley of Mexico. Through poetic urban observation, social critique, and atmospheric storytelling, the book follows the avenue and its surrounding neighborhoods — Boledas, Alcones, Nito Juárez, Tizapán — as they absorb the pressure of the giant metropolis beyond them.

Here, Mexico City is both promise and threat. It brings work, aspiration, fashion, education, traffic, smog, real estate pressure, informal economies, crime, and the constant sense that opportunity is close enough to see but too expensive to touch. Families commute toward a city that never fully accepts them. Street vendors build fragile economies under tarps. Workers return in overloaded combis. Luxury restaurants glow empty at night. Rain reveals the difference between comfort and danger. Religion, memory, smell, climate, dogs, traffic, concrete rivers, hillsides, and broken infrastructure all become part of the same urban testimony.

This is not a tourist portrait of Mexico.

It is a study of the borderlines inside a city: between rich and poor, formal and informal, safety and exposure, aspiration and abandonment, private comfort and public decay.

Written in a lyrical, dark, and socially charged style, Avenida Inetes turns one fictional avenue into a map of contemporary urban inequality — and into a haunting meditation on how people continue to live, work, hope, and endure in places that the official city would rather forget.
