IF THOU WILT BE PERFECT: A 21st Century Update of Oswald Chambers

Known as the author of the bestselling devotional My Utmost for His Highest, Chambers’ work has influenced millions of believers across the world. This updated edition brings his classic If Thou Wilt Be Perfect into the 21st century, preserving his powerful message while adapting the language and application for today’s readers.

This is not a reprint of Oswald Chambers’ original work.

More than a century has passed since Chambers first delivered these messages. While his core teachings remain as powerful and relevant as ever, the style and some of the language now feel dated to modern readers.

This edition is a 21st-century update of Chambers’ classic. I have kept his central concern with spiritual maturity, the effects of sin, the pursuit of truth, and the importance of pleasing God while adapting the content and language for today’s world. The heart of the book—the pursuit of Christian maturity through faith in God, trust in His Word, sound reasoning, spiritual discernment, and practical godliness—is just as needed now as it was in Chambers’ day.

Wherever possible, I have maintained Chambers’ earnest and compelling style. However, the chapter titles and much of the content have been rewritten to reflect how a believer living in the twenty-first century would understand and apply these life-changing truths.

My prayer is that this updated edition will encourage a new generation of Christians to deepen their trust in the Bible, sharpen their spiritual discernment, pursue genuine godliness, and seek above all to live a life that is pleasing to God.
