About this ebook

Charlie Wilkins had everything he wanted -- a husband, a daughter, a house that was his home. He still has his husband, but William has forgotten who he is. He still has his daughter, but the roles have switched, and Ann is now the one taking care of them.
There is only one thing Charlie wants, and that is to spend the rest of his days with William by his side. But William is living in a nursing home, and Charlie is living ... somewhere. Ann says she will fix it; she'll make sure they'll get to live together again. Charlie hopes she will before William either escapes or figures out Charlie has left him in someone else's care.
He promised William they'd stay together till death did them part, and he meant it, but what was he to do when he no longer could take care of William?

Remember . . . This author repeatedly amazes me. I’m not going to write a long review because it hurts, in a good way but still painful, to put the words down. But this is a real part of life and the love and devotion between these two is amazing. Charlie and William had a marriage that truly meant something, a commitment so strong. They had a wonderful daughter in their lives. And then William needed to go into a nursing home when his condition got so bad he could no longer remember. Charlie had sworn to him he would never put him in a nursing home, but there was no choice here when he could no longer take care of him. And he felt that William would hate him if he realized where he was. Their memories, in William’s occasional lucid times, will break your heart with the love and devotion. The author does such a great job with bringing out real feelings in the reader. My heart went out to both of them. To have so much love and to be torn apart by something neither can “fix”. The human spirit always amazes and inspires me. Hope makes us reach out, looking for a favorable outcome. But this condition only occasionally allows a beautiful memory to come out again. And sometimes that is even more painful. The author did a wonderful job in telling this difficult story. The line that touched me the deepest is this one uttered by William to Charlie in one of those moments of clarity: "When I wake up tomorrow and don't remember who you are, know that I love you and I don't regret a single thing..."

This short story shows how deep love can be no matter how old you are and the guilt you can feel for not doing what you promised. I really enjoyed this story.

About the author

Ofelia Gränd is Swedish, which often shines through in her stories. She likes to write about everyday people ending up in not-so-everyday situations, and hopefully also getting out of them. She writes about men falling in love with other men, but when it comes to subgenres, she likes to mix and match. Her books are written for readers who want to take a break from their everyday life for an hour or two. When Ofelia manages to tear herself from the screen and sneak away from husband and children, she likes to take walks in the woods ... if she's lucky, she finds her way back home again.
