The Engineer: Book 4 in the Bache Loftt series

Chief Engineer Bache Loftt and his colleague Specialist Zaphir Mye are directed to investigate strange crop yield anomalies on the agricultural planet of Serris Adelaine.

Not a particularly dangerous assignment one would speculate. But when a team of highly trained professional soldiers attempt to murder them both before they can uncover anything, Bache concludes there has to be something more at stake than just the sabotage of grain production.

What he uncovers shocks the GDA to the core and involves an ancient enemy believed to have been wiped out over a millennia ago. 

It seems that human races within the galaxy have been infiltrated at the molecular level going back centuries and as the height of the manipulation becomes apparent, Bache has a huge dilemma of who to trust and who are unwittingly in some cases working towards their own annihilation.
