A brilliant American neuroscientist, Pierce becomes obsessed with preserving human consciousness. His colleagues believe the project is impossible, and eventually he announces that his research has failed. Shortly afterward, he dies, leaving behind nothing but scattered notebooks and a locked laboratory.
Twenty years later, young computer engineer Noah Parker discovers an encrypted program hidden inside an obsolete university server. The program speaks with Pierce's voice, remembers details about his childhood, and knows secrets that only the dead scientist could have known.
Noah initially believes he has discovered an advanced artificial intelligence.
Then the program tells him something impossible.
"I am Jonathan Pierce."
As Noah investigates, he uncovers Project Immortal Mind, a secret experiment involving memory transfer, neural mapping, and artificial consciousness. But Pierce never intended to make humans immortal. He wanted to discover whether consciousness could survive independently from the brain.
Now powerful technology companies and government agencies want the research.
Noah must determine whether the entity inside the machine is truly Jonathan—or something that only believes it is.
