Its world was designated simply as Planet Gorman by the local inhabitants.
Long before the colony had flourished, Planet Gorman had been home to a civilisation that had developed along a medieval path, its inhabitants unaware of the greater galactic powers beyond their skies. Their isolation had made them vulnerable, and their technological limitations had left them defenceless against an enemy from the stars.
Their conqueror had been a single Malovar Harbinger battle cruiser, a formidable vessel that had travelled blind through space for months before stumbling upon the planet. Its arrival had been unexpected, its attack overwhelming, and its victory swift. The native civilisation had fallen, and a new chapter in the planet's history had begun.
Over the following century, the Malovar transformed their conquest into a thriving colony. Their numbers grew, their facilities expanded, and their machines continued to operate as they had on countless other occupied worlds.
Yet Planet Gorman possessed a peculiar disadvantage that had become an unexpected advantage.
The colony remained blind.
Its Malovar inhabitants had no reliable means of identifying their position within the galaxy. Their damaged scanning technology extended little more than a thousand miles beyond the planet's surface, leaving them ignorant of the vast reaches of space beyond their immediate surroundings. They knew very little of the progress of the wars waged by the Malovar Empire.
For more than a hundred years, the colony had prospered in isolation, secure in the belief that the Malovar remained masters of the universe. With no knowledge of the forces gathering beyond their limited horizons, they continued their existence, confident that nothing could threaten their dominion over Planet Gorman.
But the universe was changing.
I only started writing stories a few years ago. I have always enjoyed reading and I decided to give writing a try.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy cycling, watching science fiction, and spending time with my family.
