They maintained balance. When species verge on extinction, when technologies threaten dimensional rifts, or when souls become gateways to darker realms, the Aevum step in.
They did not want to be seen as intervening and developed intervention protocols.
The Aevum believe wisdom must be earned, not given freely. That is why their presence remains largely forgotten or disbelieved, hidden in myths and half-remembered dreams.
The Aevum may be ancient and wise, but even celestial beings are not immune to ambition, ideology, and cosmic ego. The Aevum ethos had become fractured.
Over millennia, the Aevum diverged into three philosophical sects; each of these factions had its own vision for how to guide the galaxy:
One of the factions rebelled against the other two, but the rebellion failed. Their leader, Vaelion, was tried and sentenced to unravelling. The unravelling would erase his existence, which would in turn erase his 2-year-old son. He escaped and ensured his son's safety before being recaptured. The Unravelling sentence was carried out, but his son was safe, for now
But the Aevum were aware that the full Unravelling had not been completed, and they continued searching for the missing piece of the sentence.
I only started writing science fiction a few years ago. I have always enjoyed watching and reading science fiction, and I decided to give writing a try.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy cycling, watching science fiction, and spending time with my family.
