About this ebook

From the bestselling author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Sphere comes a neurological thriller about the dangers of cutting-edge medical experimentation.

Harry Benson suffers from violent seizures. So violent that he often blackouts when they take hold. Shortly after severely beating two men during an episode, the police escort Benson to a Los Angeles hospital for treatment. There, Dr. Roger McPherson, head of the prestigious Neuropsychiatric Research Unit, is convinced he can cure Benson with an experimental procedure that would place electrodes deep in his brain’s pleasure centers, effectively short-circuiting Harry's seizures with pulses of bliss. The surgery is successful, but while Benson is in recovery, he discovers how to trigger the pulses himself. To make matters worse his violent impulses have only grown, and he soon escapes the hospital with a deadly agenda. . .

This was a fun and, at times, a wild ride. As many MC books, this one takes place in a span of a few days time with the arrival of a man suffering from violent seizures into the hospital for experimental treatments. Well, things don't pan out the way the docs expect. Also as per usual with MC, there is a slow drag in the book, but it's minimal in this entry. I really enjoyed all the characters, especially the antagonist. The story does seem rushed, but it's very well structured. I will say I enjoyed Harry Benson tremendously. His humor really lightens the books' mood and really bounces off Dr Ross' seriousness... I really loved her level headed character. Once the story takes place out of the hospital, it really starts getting exciting. It's a "catch-me-if-you-can" kind of story at that point. The ending comes quick, but it's a good one. It's a sharp ending, but one that needs no further explanation. This was a very light MC book, but one that really took you for a ride. 4/5.
