About this ebook

Loving her means it's more than his heart at risk.

Sick of the spy game, former CIA operative Vic Walker takes time off from his security firm to figure out just what he wants out of life. But peace and quiet isn’t in the cards with a former business partner and ex-lover like MacKenzie Donovan.

Mac doesn’t like asking for help from anyone, but this latest case has her in a little over her head. She crashes back into Vic’s life with the CIA, the Russian Mob, and the FBI, on her tail after a job goes south.

But even as old feelings rise to the surface while they’re busy dodging bullets, the authorities, and mobsters, they’ll need to get out alive before they can have a second chance at love.

This is a reissue which includes updated content and a never before seen epilogue for readers to enjoy!

Author Note: This book includes two lovers who would rather deal with murdering bad guys than with their feelings, a dysfunctional work family, shifty spies, old enemies, and new friends who might just be enemies.

It's an exciting story filled with intrigue, suspense, & danger. Yet also a unique love story with enough emotional drama & passion to captivate & entertain you. With potential danger combined with emotional drama, you have an engaging tale that will keep you turning pages from start to finish. I would have liked more in the epilogue, but the emotional rollercoaster of Vic & Mac’s relationship & the twists & turns of the storyline make this a fast-paced tale that you are sure to enjoy.

A great story full of intrigue, history, and twists! Mac and Vic have a past that has good and bad, but they never figured they’d be thrown back together. As they sort through the tangled situation they find themselves in, they also uncover the things they had kept hidden from each other. Fast paced, the story had me guessing and plowing through, unable to stop until the mystery had been solved, and our couple back on track <3

The Boss is just another reason Melissa Schroeder is one of my absolutely favorite authors. Vic and Mac's story had twists and turns I never expected. It was a page turner and a roller coaster of emotions. When ex partner Mac finds herself in trouble she goes to the one man she knows can help. If you like second chance romance with plenty of intrigue, drama and adventure around every corner, you will really enjoy their story. Definitely recommend!

About the author

From an early age, USA Today Bestselling author Melissa Schroeder loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.

Since her first published book, Grace Under Pressure, Mel has had over 150 short stories, novellas, and novels published. She has written in genres ranging from historical to contemporary to futuristic and has worked with 8 publishers although she handles most of her publishing herself. She is best known for her Harmless and Santini series.

After years of following her military husband around the country and world, Mel happily lives with her family in horse and wine country in Northern Virginia.
