About this ebook
When a body is discovered after a Catholic parish's Bingo Night, a Denver detective must confront the best and worst of his tight-knit community, as well as a looming threat from his past, in this arresting new novel from the beloved author of Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore
Every Saturday night, Dale O’Ryan oversees the Bingo game at St. Bonaventure’s gymnasium. In exchange, his kids get to roam free, exploring the grade school’s nooks and crannies and pilfering ice cream from the cafeteria. Late at night, after Bingo, a select few gather in the gym for secret midnight basketball games, lovingly nicknamed Sacred Hoops.
The ritual is a bright spot for parish members in a working-class neighborhood in 80s Denver…
Until one night when someone is trapped in the school’s walk-in freezer.
Was the death an accident? Maybe. But when Detective Harry Moberg arrives at the parish, he begins to suspect that something more sinister is afoot.
As the investigation unfolds, a fatal secret from Moberg’s own childhood threatens to tip the fragile balance of his life.
At once an immersive, page-turning mystery and a profound meditation on class, community and the morally gray area between right and wrong, The Midnight Game is a colorful and unforgettable new novel, perfect for fans of Tana French, Dennis Lehane and Stephen King.
