4 1/2 stars. I enjoyed this story with one lady helping other ladies find ways to their happiness and safety. Lady Duxbury used her own past experiences to guide Eleanor, Lavinia, and Rose to better lives. As they all became the best of friends, I was compelled to keep reading, enjoying the growth of all four ladies. The journal entries were an interesting way to provide some history. There were times where I felt the story got a little bogged down with too much detail. Overall, a good book.

The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin is historical fiction with heart, grit, and a quiet kind of rebellion that lingers long after the final page. If you love stories that celebrate the power of books, community, and connection, this novel is a must-read. Set in Victorian London, it invites readers into a hidden world where women gather under the guise of tea to share stories, strength, and solidarity.
