Weapon of Mercia

Mercia’s greatest shield must now become its deadliest weapon.

Wessex AD838

King Wiglaf has already demanded much of Icel. Now, with Mercia’s enemies closing in, he asks for the impossible.

Two years after the bloodshed at Brent Knoll, Icel stands on a slaughter field far from home, fighting beside King Wiglaf of Mercia and King Ecgberht of Wessex against Viking raiders, sworn to the ruthless warlord Agonn. But nothing involving the Wessex king is ever as it seems.

As battle rages, Icel senses something is wrong. Yet a devastating blow to the head has robbed him of his memory of the last few years and left two of his oathsworn dead. Piece by piece, his memories return. And with them comes a terrible truth.

Icel must prevent what seems inevitable before it is too late.
But first, he must fulfil King Wiglaf’s secret command.
He has been Mercia’s shield, protector and warrior.
Now, he must become its weapon.
