रामपूरचे सरदार मानसिंगराजे शिर्के यांच्या नाममात्र पत्नी कांचनमाला आणि त्यांचे ’प्रेम’ जया म्हणजे त्यांची दुसरी पत्नी या दोघींमध्ये त्यांच्या मृत्युपश्चात वारसाहक्क व इस्टेटीवरून खटला सुरू होतो. स्वार्थी कांचनमाला आणि सात्विक जया दोघीही आपल्या हक्कासाठी कोर्टात जातात. एकनिष्ठ, निर्व्याज प्रेम आणि सरदार मानसिंग यांच्यावरील विश्वासामुळे न्याय आपल्यालाच मिळणार असे जयाला वाटत असते आणि त्याचवेळी अचानक कांचनमालांचे वकील कोर्टापुढे मानसिंग शिर्के यांचे मृत्युपत्र सादर करतात. आता या खटल्याला पुढे कोणते वळण मिळणार म्हणून सगळेच कोड्यात पडतात... त्याचवेळी जयाच्या डोळ्यासमोरून तिचा भूतकाळ झरझर पुढे सरकू लागतो...
