Can Promises Made in Times of Struggle Endure 200 Years?

Visit historic American landmarks through the Doors to the Past series. History and today collide in stories full of mystery, intrigue, faith, and romance.

Young, spirited Josie Wilkins life is about to take a turn when faced with political turmoil and secret love in San Antonio of 1836. John Gilbert has won her heart, despite being a Protestant preacher who is forbidden to practice his faith in Texas. If he discovers the secrets of her painful past, he will never have anything to do with her. But then comes the Battle of the Alamo. Will either of them survive an epic battle for liberty to create a legacy of love?

Nearly 200 years later, Kayleigh Hewland takes breaks from her demanding job as a refugee coordinator working with Mexican migrants to attend flea markets where she has found a uniquely engraved ring that helps her discover who killed her parents. Enlisting the help of appraiser Brandon Mullins, they piece together a love story long forgotten. But will dangers linked to the ring end her own hopes for leaving a legacy built on hope, faith, and love?

“Faith. It meant taking that giant step and putting herself in someone else’s hands.”Enjoyed this dual-time period story about two young women separated by almost 200 years and connected by a cat-eye ring. With lush historical details and inspiring stories of perseverance and faith, this story transported me to 1830’s Texas and the battle for independence. Highly recommend this story to Christian & historical fiction lovers. Content: stalker, rape (no explicit details), some violence.

4 stars, Unique Alamo novel A PROMISE ENGRAVED (DOORS TO THE PAST, #8) by Liz Tolsma This is a unique mystery, romance Alamo novel set in a dual timeline of the 1830s and present-day San Antonio de Bexar. There is a great mystery involving a women's ring. Josie Wilkins has an adventurous spirit, always willing to help with messages for the people of San Antonio, before it became Texas. John Gilbert is a preacher who is a fighter within the resistance against Santa Anna, a Mexican general, for the freedom of Texas. Kayleigh Hewland has discovered a unique women's ring with an engraving on it in a flea market booth, that she'd like to read, so she talks to Brandon Mullins, a jeweler to find out what the engraving says and what it might mean. These two couples are 200 years apart, though they are all fighting for the people that they love. Two women are separated by almost two centuries. Both struggle with their faith in the Lord and events in their pasts. They are connected by a ring that had belonged to their mothers. And they know Christian men who grow to love them despite each woman trying to avoid romance. This is the first dual timeline story written by this gifted storyteller, and it is excellent! The characters and the Texas Revolution, including the Alamo, and the outcome of the war, are brought to life through realistic
