About this ebook

Seven friends throw a 1920s themed party, where it’s all pretend . . . until one of them is murdered.

“A can’t miss for mystery fans.”—Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times bestselling author of Girl in Pieces and The Agathas

“An unputdownable, bittersweet whodunit.”—Kirkus Reviews

Someone brought a knife to the party.

To celebrate the end of high school, Izzy Morales joins her ride-or-die Kassidy and five friends on a 1920s-themed getaway at the glamorous Ashwood Manor. There, Izzy and her friends party in vintage dresses and expensive diamonds—until Kassidy’s boyfriend turns up dead.

Murdered, investigators declare when they arrive at the scene. And every party guest is a suspect.

The girlfriend, in love.
The other girl, in despair.
The old friend, forlorn.
The new friend, distressed.
The wild card, an enigma.
And Izzy—the girl who brought the knife.

To find the killer, everyone must undergo a grueling interrogation, all while locked in an estate where, suddenly, the greatest luxury is innocence.

This had a great setup but even with my expectations lowered for a YA, I was still sadly let down by this. It tried way too hard to set up a red herring with the prologue. And when the secret is finally revealed and we get the explanation for Izzy's behavior...it's just really illogical and clumsy. The plot also felt somewhat lazy, in the way it set up for Izzy to learn about the entire investigation.

This was a fun locked-room murder mystery thriller and I enjoyed getting to know each character and learning how each was connected to the victim as well as their potential motives for killing Blaine. The setting is amazing! The 1920's mansion was painted so vividly that I could see, hear, smell, feel, and even taste every detail. These details were interwoven so well and helped move the plot along and never felt as if their inclusion weighed down the pacing. The flashbacks for each character

A roaring murder. It starts as a fantastical dream of a 1920s theme vacation. What an amazing thing money would allow you to do as a teenager. It’s got your teenage drama and some not-so-teenage drama. A locked room mystery type set up on an island. There were some twists I didn’t see coming. Definitely enjoyed this one and would read more from this author.
