About this ebook

From acclaimed author Kit Frick comes a darkly funny suspense novel starring a horror writer who reluctantly returns to her hometown to confront her past, only to find herself accused of carrying out her main character’s vengeful crimes.

The Night of the Party... it's going to be a killer time

Cat Lenox never planned to return Sumac Grove, the wealthy, stifling small town where she was raised by her poor farmer grandparents and relentlessly bullied. When she moved to New York City for college, she never looked back.

Now Cat is the soon-to-be-published author of a YA horror novel inspired by Stephen King’s Carrie—in which she has penned a violent, vengeful end for the not-so-fictionalized versions of the girls who tormented her in high school. But when Cat’s grandfather dies right before the book releases, she ends up back in Sumac Grove for the funeral, where she comes face-to-face with her demons—and the mean girls who made her childhood a living hell.

Seeking real-life revenge, and a way out of a financial scrape, Cat plans a low-level scam to fleece her former tormentors out of a couple thousand dollars through an MLM disguised as a benefit reception. But when one of the women vanishes on the night of the party, Cat’s plans to skip town with the cash go up in smoke, and she becomes the prime suspect in a crime eerily reminiscent of her book’s plot.
