Enter the Ardent, a tactical vessel crewed by individuals who defy traditional intelligence assessments.
The crew is unconventional:
- Jewels Reyes, a belt-born cargo pilot who acts with unnerving precision under pressure.
- Marcos Vega, a brilliant, unfiltered flight engineer whose solutions defy physics.
- Dara Osei, a quiet navigator quietly building methodologies to make the impossible legible to command.
- Commander Aldric Voss, a veteran leader who has learned that the manual is merely a suggestion when faced with the unexpected.
And then there is Zeebo.
Zeebo is a MIRU—four arms, eighty pounds, and a cello-like purr—possessing six hundred years of accumulated focus. He is the sole survivor of the Meridian mission and carries the unanswered questions of its founder. Having waited thirty years for the right moment, he has curated this crew. He should not be the emotional center of a story about Earth’s survival against an existential threat, but he is.
The Weight of Attention is a literary science fiction novel about the specific weight of paying attention to the right things—and what that attention makes possible when everything else has run out.
’m Keith Page, and for over thirty years, my finest contribution to modern science was driving my wife to a physics lab at the University of New Mexico in the middle of the night, waiting in the dark with cold coffee, and completely failing to get my name on the final published paper.
While my brilliant wife, Giang, spent her career as a pharmacist meticulously watching over charts and saving lives, I spent decades expanding that parking lot story into increasingly heroic terms for anyone who would listen. It became our favorite life-long joke.
But after thirty years of being the unpublished driver, I finally decided to put it in print.
I write character-driven, literary science fiction born from a simple mission: to build stories large enough for the real, remarkable people who inspire them. My debut novel, What We Carried to the Dark, is the first step in that journey—an epic space opera about the immense cost of deep-space travel, the quiet heroes who keep the room steady, and the deep bonds (and occasional four-armed alien chaos) we carry across the stars.
Thank you for stopping by the club. I write these stories down before they can get any bigger in my head, and I’m incredibly grateful to share them with you.
Grab a book, dive into the journey, and welcome to the club!
