Another beautifully written tale of humans and fae. I found this book to cover more than the previous one, and it seemed longer. I am fine with that as I always hate to flip to the last page of Moody’s books. The female MC, Chloe, is known for her paralyzing fear and lack of courage when it matters the most. I loved seeing her character growth through this book, and really loved her emotional support animal.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a book written by Kay L. Moody will instantly become one of my new favorites. Shadow and Crystal Thorns is the latest evidence of this truth. First off, there's a dragon. An incredibly awesome dragon. A completely terrifying dragon. Although, as Chloe will be the first to admit, she's afraid of a lot of things. But to be fair, as much as I love dragons, I would probably still be completely scared out of my mind to be close to one even if it does have an enchanted bridle. Second, as I've said before, Chloe is all kinds of wonderful. She's also a complete mess. Hiding the severity of her injury from her sister. Trying to convince herself and Quintus that she can't be with him even though it's quite obvious to everyone else that they can't stay apart for long. Ashamed that she is unable to do anything without help, while being the only person to provide real solutions to the problems that they face. That is actually the beauty of this book.
