About this ebook

It's said that if the ravens ever leave the Tower of London, then the Tower will crumble and the kingdom will fall. Resurrected sorcerer Matthew Swift is about to discover that this isn't so far from the truth. . .
One by one, the protective magical wards that guard the city are falling: the London Wall defiled with cryptic graffiti, the ravens found dead at the Tower, the London Stone destroyed. This is not good news. This array of supernatural defenses -- a mix of international tourist attractions and forgotten urban legends -- formed a formidable magical shield, one that could protect London from the greatest threat it has ever known. But what could be so dangerous as to threaten an entire city?
Against his better judgment, Matthew Swift is about to find out. And if he's lucky, he might just live long enough to do something about it . . .

Ok, but the story was slowed often with list of London street names, townships, landmarks and sort of gibberish prose. Seemed like more than 318 pages.

I have this book in two formats (physical hardcover & most recently...digital through Google Play). In either format, this book is very engaging and written well enough to have me longing for illustrations or (dare I say it?) a big budget film version. Kate Griffin (Catherine Webb) brings you into the hidden mystical world of London's magical elite and keeps you there long enough to turn to the next page. Not only does she bring you into this hidden world, she also challenges you to look at your own world from a more...open-minded perspective. This book is a real winner and definitely an addictive read.

I started with this book not knowing it was the second in a series of four. Totally hooked me. The writing style leaves gaps in the mythology. Some of these get explained and some don't. I like that the writing is rather terse. Character development is good. The most unbelievable thing in the series is how much the main character gets beat up but even that comes clear in the end. Could not put these down. I ignored my family for a week while I was reading these.
