Juan Rivera is a Notion consultant, workflow designer, and recovering over-planner who spent years building systems he never actually used before he figured out what actually works.
After a decade working as a project manager at agencies and startups in Austin, Texas, Juan went independent in 2019. His first year as a solopreneur was a masterclass in what not to do: he tried using the same project management tools his former teams used, took on projects that were wrong for his skillset, and spent more time building elaborate productivity systems than doing actual client work. Somewhere between his third abandoned Notion workspace and his fourth near-miss deadline, he realized the problem wasn't the tool—it was the approach.
He's been helping solopreneurs build practical, sustainable Notion systems ever since. His approach is rooted in the belief that systems should enable action, not replace it. He teaches his clients to build for their actual workflows, not for the idealized version of how they think they should work.
Juan writes the Notion Weekly newsletter, a short, practical email read by over twelve thousand solopreneurs. He's also the creator of the Solopreneur Stack—a free collection of Notion templates that have been downloaded over forty thousand times. His work has been featured in Notion's official template gallery, Product Hunt, and the Notion VIP newsletter.
When he's not building or writing about Notion systems, Juan is usually running trails in the Texas Hill Country, experimenting with sourdough starters that rarely turn out as planned, or reading books about systems thinking and business operations. He lives in Austin with his wife, two kids, and a dog who has strong opinions about when walk time should happen.
He believes that every solopreneur deserves a business that runs without them having to be in the driver's seat every single minute. And he believes that Notion—used the right way—is one of the best tools for making that happen.
