Then the alarm goes off, and Billy copies the files anyway.
By midnight he is Target Fifteen. A man who says he works for the Deputy Director knocks on his door. Another team starts shooting from the street. A stranger texts him: don't go home, and don't trust Miranda's father. Miranda, the woman he loves, is the Deputy Director's daughter.
What Billy learns next is worse than the conspiracy. His father didn't die in a car accident twenty years ago. He built the first Wiretap, faked his death to escape the man who now runs it, and has spent four years watching his son through a telescope from the building across the street. Now the machine can see every phone and traffic light in the city, the President is missing, and the only key to switching it off is a chess knight Billy has been carrying since he was nine.
Billy can preserve Wiretap or destroy it. Either choice will cost him everything he has left.
