Jose Hernandez is a language educator, travel writer, and lifelong learner of Spanish linguistics and pedagogy. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and raised in a bilingual household, he developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of Spanish—from Caribbean cadences to the melodic accents of the Andes. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Florida and a master’s in Applied Linguistics from the University of Barcelona, he spent over fifteen years teaching Spanish to adult learners in five countries, including Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States.
His teaching philosophy centers on practical, confidence-driven communication. He believes that language fluency begins with the courage to speak, not the mastery of grammar. This approach led him to create a series of travel-focused language resources, including the popular online course “Spanish on the Go” and the podcast “Charlas de Viaje,” which interviews travelers about their real-world language experiences. Jose has also contributed travel-language columns to *National Geographic Traveler* and *Condé Nast Traveler*, and he regularly leads immersive language workshops for tourism professionals.
In *Mastering Spanish Conversation for Travelers*, Jose distills decades of classroom and real-world experience into a clear, actionable guide. He has tested every dialogue and tip with students from all backgrounds, ensuring that even readers with no prior Spanish knowledge can start speaking from the very first chapter. When not writing or teaching, Jose can be found exploring new destinations—often with a notebook in hand, collecting the phrases that connect strangers and turn trips into stories. He currently lives in Seville, Spain, with his wife and two bilingual children.
