About the Author
Jonathan Buford is a speculative fiction author and technology ethics researcher based in the Pacific Northwest. His work explores the intersection of human consciousness, emerging technology, and the moral choices that define us in an increasingly complex world. Drawing on a background in computer science and philosophy, Buford brings a grounded yet imaginative perspective to the cyberpunk genre, focusing on character-driven narratives that ask difficult questions about identity, redemption, and the nature of free will in an age of algorithmic control.
Before turning to fiction full-time, Buford spent a decade working in cybersecurity and software development, experiences that inform the technical authenticity of his writing. His short fiction has appeared in *Clarkesworld*, *Lightspeed*, and *Beneath Ceaseless Skies*, and his essay on the ethics of artificial intelligence in speculative fiction was featured in *The Writer's Chronicle*. He is a graduate of the Clarion West Writers Workshop and has served as a guest lecturer on worldbuilding and narrative design at several regional writing conferences.
*The Cyberpunk Assassin Redemption* is his debut novel. He is currently at work on a standalone companion novel set in the same universe, following a new protagonist through the neon-lit underworld of a different city-state in the fractured North American Continuum. When not writing, Buford can be found hiking the trails of the Olympic Peninsula, tinkering with vintage synthesizers, or arguing with his cat about the correct amount of breakfast.
He lives in Portland, Oregon with his partner, two cats, and an ever-growing collection of cyberpunk-themed art prints that his partner insists is becoming a problem. (He disagrees.)
