About this ebook

Standardized Test Mastery is a detailed, practical guide to The Complete Exam Preparation System for Standardized Tests for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Mindset of a Champion Test-Taker, Diagnose Your Starting Point, Building a Custom Study Plan That Actually Sticks, Mastering Time Management for Test Day, The Elimination Method: Cracking Multiple Choice Questions, Math Foundations: The Concepts Behind Every Question, Math Strategy Drills: Problem Solving Under the Clock, The Reading Comprehension Arsenal, Crush the Grammar and Writing Sections, The Science of Memory: Lock In What You Learn, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

John Foster is an educator, test preparation strategist, and learning science researcher who has spent over two decades helping students transform their standardized test performance. A graduate of the University of Michigan with advanced degrees in educational psychology and instructional design, he began his career teaching high school mathematics in Detroit public schools, where he first observed the dramatic gap between students' classroom knowledge and their test scores. That observation launched a career long investigation into the cognitive, emotional, and strategic factors that determine performance on high-stakes exams.

Foster went on to serve as director of curriculum for a national test-prep organization, where he designed preparation programs for the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT, training more than three hundred instructors and reaching over fifty thousand students. His work synthesizes findings from cognitive psychology, sports performance, behavioral economics, and instructional technology into practical systems that produce measurable score improvements. He has presented at conferences for the National Council on Measurement in Education, the Learning and the Brain Society, and the American Educational Research Association, and his articles have appeared in Educational Leadership, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and Psychology Today.

In addition to his work in test preparation, Foster consults with medical schools, law schools, and MBA programs on curriculum design and equitable admissions practices. He is a certified executive coach and a member of the International Coaching Federation, bringing a performance psychology lens to academic preparation. He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with his family and an overgrown garden, and when he is not writing, teaching, or analyzing test blueprints, he can be found hiking the trails of the Huron River watershed or attempting to perfect his sourdough starter. Standardized Test Mastery is his fourth book.
