About this ebook

A fascinating look at how community associations are changing the way we live

Across America, community associations are flourishing. As more rand more residents are finding out each year, these communities offer a new way of living together—one that protects and enhances property values even as it empowers people to support their mutual interests and live in harmony.

In the Common Interest reveals the phenomenal growth of this lifestyle, and explains how the modern community association benefits not only residents but also the country at large. John Carona’s pros-and-cons analysis and prescriptive advice for the future will benefit anyone considering living in a community association or who currently resides or governs in one. To bring his points to life, Carona weaves throughout the book the fictional story of David and Sandra, a couple whose experiences bust open all the myths about community living.

Carona is founder, president, and CEO of Associa, the nation’s largest community association management firm. He is also an accomplished legislator who has served in both the House and the Senate in the state of Texas, whom Texas Monthly twice named in its list of the “Ten Best Legislators.” This book reflects his wealth of knowledge, and serves as an inspiring vision of how we can continue building the new American community.
