About this ebook

Deep Space Salvage is a detailed, practical guide to Deep Space Salvage and Alien Technology for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include Waking Up in the Black, The Salvager's Toolkit, Identifying Alien Technology, Navigational Hazards of Deep Space Wreckage, Extracting Power Cores Without Blowing Yourself Up, Negotiating with Salvage Guilds and Factions, Onboard AI and Ancient Data Interfaces, Zero-G Heavy Lifting Techniques, The Scrapper's Log: Common Contaminants and Decontamination, Auctioning Alien Components: Pricing and Valuation Guide, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Jimmie Cook began his career as a systems engineer on deep-space container vessels, spending seven years maintaining the propulsion and life-support systems of ships operating beyond the outer rim. This direct experience with the hardware and hazards of deep-space operations gave him a practical understanding of vessel construction, failure modes, and emergency procedures that no academic program could provide.

After leaving active service, Cook spent five years as a licensed salvage operator, working recoveries across three sectors and specializing in the extraction and identification of exotic matter power systems. During this period, he personally recovered over 200 alien technology components, including thirteen classified as Anomalous Artifact Class-1. His field notes from these recoveries are cited in technical manuals used by salvage training programs throughout Alliance space.

Cook transitioned to teaching and writing after a near-fatal exposure event during the recovery of an unstable containment vessel, an incident that left him with lasting respiratory damage and a conviction that the industry's safety training was inadequate. He developed the Practical Salvage Safety curriculum now required by the Independent Salvage Operators' Guild and has trained over 1,200 operators in hazardous materials handling and emergency response procedures.

Deep Space Salvage represents the culmination of over two decades of experience in the salvage industry, from the engine rooms of deep-space freighters to the wreck-strewn corridors of derelict alien vessels. Cook's writing is informed by firsthand knowledge of the techniques, dangers, and ethical complexities that define the salvage profession. He lives in a low-orbit habitat above Titan with his partner and two children, and continues to consult on high-risk salvage operations when his health permits.

He is currently working on a companion volume focused on the specific challenges of salvaging in contested space, scheduled for publication in the next standard year.
