About this ebook

The Solo Travel Playbook is a detailed, practical guide to Smart Solo Travel Planning for Nervous First-Timers for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Fear Audit: Why You're Ready Even If You Don't Feel Ready, The Destination Scorecard: Pick a First Trip You Can't Mess Up, Pick Your Trip Shape: Group, Semi-Guided, or Fully Solo, Where You Sleep Matters: The Safe-Stay Criteria, The Three-Bucket Method: Plan Flights, Days, and Money Separately, The Nervous Flyer's Hour-by-Hour Airport Walkthrough, The Money Map: Budgeting, Cards, Cash, and a Hidden Safety Net, Pack Like a Pro: The 'What If It Gets Lost?' Rule, The First 48 Hours: Land, Connect, and Check In Without Panic, The Overplanned Itinerary: A Mistake Audit of First-Trip Planning, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Jason Kyser is a travel writer and pre-trip planning coach who helps nervous first-timers replace "someday" with a departure date. For ten years he worked in event logistics, building the detailed operational plans behind conferences and large-scale productions, where he learned an unglamorous truth: the events that look effortless are the ones with the most preparation behind them.

That insight followed him into travel. His own first solo trip—a ten-day journey through Portugal he'd postponed three times—was supposed to prove he wasn't the traveling kind. Instead, it revealed that his anxiety had never really been about the road; it was about the unknown. The planning system he built for that trip became the foundation of The Solo Travel Playbook, and his writing since then has focused on one conviction: confidence is something you construct, step by step, long before you leave.

Jason has since solo-traveled to more than twenty countries, developed planning workshops for first-time travelers, and built a popular newsletter for people who want to see the world but keep talking themselves out of it. His approach is practical and warm: research reduces fear, preparation builds momentum, and a good plan is what makes spontaneity possible.

He lives in Portland, Oregon, with a perpetually half-packed carry-on and a map of his next destination taped to the fridge. When he's not writing, he's usually practicing what he preaches—alone at a café counter, ordering with confidence in a language he's still learning.
