Janice Faulkner is a senior IELTS examiner and speaking preparation coach with more than fifteen years of experience in English language education. As a certified examiner for the British Council and IDP, she has assessed thousands of Speaking tests across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and she has trained new examiners in the consistent application of the band descriptors. Her unusual dual perspective — examiner and teacher — is the foundation of her teaching method: she knows, from the marking room, exactly which habits raise a score and which habits quietly cap it.
She holds a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leeds and a Cambridge DELTA, and she has taught English to learners from more than forty countries, from absolute beginners to advanced professionals preparing for university and skilled migration. For over a decade she has designed Speaking preparation programmes for language schools, universities, and corporate clients, and her workshops — focused on fluency development, pronunciation for intelligibility, and exam strategy — have helped thousands of candidates reach Band 7 and above.
Janice is a firm believer that the Speaking test is the most teachable component of IELTS, and that any learner willing to practise deliberately can transform their score. She writes and records materials for teachers and candidates across Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, and she continues to examine regularly, keeping her coaching grounded in the reality of the exam room. *IELTS Speaking Masterclass* is her second book on exam preparation, following her widely used collection of task-based writing exercises for IELTS Academic candidates.
