Joseph Ferguson is a financial educator and author who has spent the past fifteen years helping couples transform their relationships with money and with each other. He is the founder of Shared Budget Solutions, a coaching and education platform that has guided over ten thousand couples through the process of building sustainable, values-aligned financial systems together.
Joseph's approach grew out of his own experience. Early in his marriage, he and his wife struggled with the same financial conflicts they now help others resolve. After trying and failing with dozens of budget systems, they developed the shared budget framework out of necessity. It worked so well for their own relationship that they began sharing it with friends, then with clients, and eventually built an entire practice around it.
Before founding Shared Budget Solutions, Joseph spent eight years as a financial planner at a major wealth management firm, where he noticed a pattern again and again: the couples who thrived financially were not the ones with the highest incomes or the most sophisticated investment strategies. They were the ones who had aligned on a system for managing money together. This insight became the foundation for his work.
Joseph holds a Certified Financial Planner designation and a master's degree in financial planning from the University of Georgia. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Kiplinger's Personal Finance, and his writing on couples and money reaches over one hundred thousand readers each month through his newsletter and blog.
He lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with his wife of seventeen years and their two children. When he's not working with couples on their finances, you'll find him hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, cooking elaborate weekend dinners, or practicing what he preaches by sitting down every Sunday evening for his own money meeting.
