About this ebook

The Feelings Talk is a detailed, practical guide to Talking About Feelings with Your Child in English for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Emotional Vocabulary Gap, The Feelings Map, Start With 'What Are You Feeling?', Anger and Frustration: The Loud Feelings, Sadness and Disappointment: The Quiet Feelings, Fear and Anxiety: When Words Are Hard, The Daily Check-In Habit, When Two Kids Are Fighting, Sorry, I Apologize: The Repair Scripts, The Empathy Scripts, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

JEFFREY S JENNINGS is a parenting educator, bilingual family communication specialist, and the creator of the Feelings Talk method. With over fifteen years of experience working with multilingual families across Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, he has developed practical frameworks for parents who want to raise emotionally intelligent children while navigating the complexity of raising kids in a non-native language.

Jennings began his career as an English language teacher in Tokyo, where he noticed that the parents most engaged in their children's emotional lives were not the ones with perfect English they were the ones willing to try imperfect English to stay connected. This observation led to a decade of research and field work at the intersection of early childhood emotional development and second language parenting. He has trained thousands of parents through workshops, online courses, and community programs.

A certified parent educator through the International Parenting Institute and a contributing writer for Bilingual Family Magazine and Parenting Across Cultures, Jennings lives in Kuala Lumpur with his wife and two children, where he continues to refine the Feelings Talk method through daily practice. This is his first book.
