How Did Humans Measure Time?

As civilizations advanced, people needed more accurate ways to tell time. Today, we calculate a "day" from midnight to the next midnight. This method was commonly used in ancient Egypt and Greek astronomy. The ancient Romans also chose midnight as the start of the day.
